Highlights of Chile and Argentina
Note: the final booking date for this trip is September 12, 2008 Introduction The countries of Chile and Argentina make up almost all of the South American territory situated to the south of the Tropic of Capricorn. Chile, a skinny string-bean stretching north to south and Argentina, a wedge-shaped land tapering toward its southern extremities combine to offer the visitor a huge selection of options for superb travel experiences. Beautiful cities, spectacular scenery, deserts, seaside towns and beaches, wineries, hot springs, countless lakes, rivers and fjords, immense mountains, comfortable hotels, great restaurants and much more combine to make this a wonderful tourist destination. Come with us on our maiden voyage to this wonderful land as we introduce a brand-new Private Journey in the fall of 2008. We travel on modern aircraft, private mini-buses, boats and other craft. We sample local food and wine. We watch the sunset and share stories at happy hour. We do scores of things you'll love. On each of our journeys one or more of our experienced tour leaders rides along with the group to offer advice, to smooth any bumps in the road and to make sure your experience is the best it can possibly be. Let us share some of our favourite and very special places with you. Come in and talk to us or call us soon. All our journeys are enormously popular and fill up quickly.
Our 22-day journey follows a counter-clockwise route through both countries starting in Santiago, Chile and finishing in Buenos Aires, Argentina. We spend our first two days in Santiago where we take time to rejuvenate after our long journey from Canada and to leisurely explore the beautiful sites of the Chilean capital. From here we head into the Casablanca Valley, the birthplace of some of the world's best Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay wines and then onward for a full-day look at the towns of Isla Negra, Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. Next we fly southward to Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas and explore the interesting history of the German settlements of Frutillar and Puerto Octay. Next comes the two-day Lakes Crossing into Argentina, ending at San Carlos de Bariloche. We next head south to Patagonia, a magical land of forests and glaciers, where we spend three fantastic days in Torres del Paine National Park before returning to Argentina and onward to the very tip of South America and the town of Ushuaia, the capital of Tierra del Fuego. We complete the journey in the beautiful, cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires.
